Here is the web address: http://www.business.gov.au/Business+Entry+Point/  Go to ABN Lookup and you can confirm the ACN, ABN, postcode of principal place of business and more.

A company is a separate legal entity (or person) able to hold property, sue and be sued. It usually has “Pty Ltd” or “Ltd” after its name. You do a company search to find out who is in managerial control of the company (the directors) and who owns it (the shareholders).

A business name is a name under which a person or entity carries on business. It is not a separate legal entity.

ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission), the Australian watchdog of companies, has provided access to a limited number of third party providers, called information brokers, to interface with their data bases and provide more detailed information for those who want to do an Australian company search.
